Steven M. Mason has joined Freeman Mills as Of Counsel to the firm. Mr. Mason has practiced law extensively in state and federal courts in Texas, including in substantial, complex civil litigation cases and, most recently, oil and gas and real estate litigation and office practice.
In his most recent private practice, Mr. Mason has handled a wide variety of civil litigation, including oil and gas pipeline condemnation projects in state and federal court and substantial work with complicated easements, leases, mineral interests, and with various real estate and oil and gas disputes and title issues. Mr. Mason worked for many years as Senior Litigation Counsel for the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney’s office in Tyler, Texas. During that time, Mr. Mason was part of the Department of Justice trial team in the Branch Davidian wrongful death law suit in Waco, Texas. He was also co-lead counsel in the notable case, The United States v. The Rainbow Family, in federal court in Lufkin, Texas. Mr. Mason’s additional breadth of experience as a litigator of cases of medical malpractice, personal injury, property damage, constitutional torts, and employment discrimination make him uniquely qualified to successfully manage widely-diverse litigation and legal matters for clients. Mr. Mason is in the Freeman Mills Tyler, Texas office.
Mr. Mason is a graduate of Baylor University and Baylor Law School. During law school, Mr. Mason was appointed as Attorney General for the Baylor student body. Mr. Mason played on the tennis team at Baylor for two years and for four years in high school in Dallas, where he grew up. Mr. Mason is married to Margaret and they have five children.
